PM: In 15 Days I Will Be “Father of the Prime Minister”

PHNOM PENH: In about 15 days, Prime Minister Hun Sen will be become the "Father of the Prime Minister,” which he posted about on his Telegram on August 7.

In the message he reminisced on his 44 years in politics, more than 38 of which have been as prime minister.

He added that with only 15 days left, he would leave his office to the next generation, and taking on the title of “Father of the Prime Minister” in addition to President of the CPP, President of the Senate and President of the Supreme Council of the King.

He wrote, “I will continue to be prime minister for 15 more days then I will be promoted as father of the prime minister. It is not the end yet. I will continue serving in other positions for at least until 2033, which I will then serve for more than half a century.”

On August 7 King Norodom Sihamoni issued a royal decree appointing Dr. Hun Manet as the new prime minister, after PM Hun Sen announced his decision to step down and give chance to his successors to lead. At the beginning of his premiership, Hun Sen was the youngest prime minister in the world at 32 years old. Forty-four years later, he is the longest-serving prime minister: a fact in which he takes great pride.
